Construction on Highway 51 and Blue Lake Road

Highway 51 from Hazelhurst to Minocqua is getting spiffed up just in time for the 4th of July.  Road construction crews have been hard at work this month tearing up the road and slapping a fresh new coat of asphalt on the artery which has been super bumpy with exposed crevices since this past winter.  Both southbound lanes at Blue Lake Road, as well as northbound lane 1, have been paved.  Northbound lane 2 (all the way to the right) is graded and the center turning lane remains in its original state.  Major progress develops daily, though, with huge portions of the project rolling towards completion with a most speedy velocity.

This blogger particularly enjoys the fun “obstacle course” nature of the current conditions as one gets to weave between orange barrels while dodging steam rollers which occasionally infringe onto the track.

Is that the end of the road construction after this project?

I haven’t heard of any other big construction plans around the area this season other than the roadwork 8 miles west of the Highway 70 / 51 intersection and the corresponding 70 W detour. For anyone traveling to Minocqua from the south, beware of the construction zone in Lincoln County (near Merrill)… the police department is heavily patrolling that area and is doling out hefty fines for infractions.
