Case of the Missing Berries

27 Jun

Paging Jessica Fletcher, Encyclopedia Brown and Hercule Poirot to Lower Kaubashine Road.  All of the mouthwatering blueberries, once so abundantly adorning the dwarf shrubbery in the government plot between Camp Nine Road and Lower Kaubashine Road, have up and gone missing like this season.  The heathy undergrowth is there all right but as for the berries… poof, gone like a modern 401K.  While tropical temperatures invite cravings for blueberry pies, pastel ice creams and succulent cobblers, a determined frost earlier this month may have just done the little guys in.

Strawberries, too, are not yet ready for picking and may be peaking later than last year’s July 7th perfect harvest.  Hope most ardently waxes for lip-smacking strawberry waffles, heaping shortcakes, refreshing daqiuiris and bowls full of the fresh, red fruit.
