“Show me the ice cream!” – Blue Lake Free Press
After many long months of daydreaming, summer finally rolled into Blue Lake with spectacularly sweltering glory. The solstice warmed up the sky in the wee morning hours as lakeside residents enjoy the longest day of the year and its 80-degree offerings. Barefooters, paddle boaters and armada of twilight boat cruisers especially took advantage of the almost perfectly sunny weekend.
Sunshine and lovely waters dodged intermittent thunderstorms and a long stretch of dreariness to shine good fortune upon truckloads of vacationers packing the highways to escape Up North for the onset of the 2009 summer travel season. Favorable conditions on Blue Lake saw kayakers, anglers and waterskiiers a’plenty cutting to and fro through placid waters, maximizing each aquatic moment with impressive enthusiasm.
Water birds have also been especially active with loons walloring throughout the night and staging Sharks vs. Jets showdowns with a paddling of ducks along Blue Lake’s southern shore. The loons appear to be winning turf.
